As the owner of a busy small business, I am more than aware of the challenges this creates when it comes to managing your time. The truth is, that in running our business, we can become so caught up in the busyness of our business that we are not productive. Do you find yourself constantly running from one task to another and never really getting ahead?

Many of us have grown our business from a simple idea and worked tirelessly to grow it in to a thriving business. Along the way, we have learnt so many things. But one of the things that most small businesses fail to do when in the growth phase it is to create systems and processes.

If you are wondering how systems and processes relate to your business, I cannot recommend the book – The E-Myth highly enough. The author Michael Gerber, has now written several books on this topic. The books are all light reading but full of gems for any business owners.

He talks about how time and again, business owners forget to put systems and processes in place. Over time, this will inhibit our ability to grow. This is for 2 reasons. Firstly, because we become the only person that knows how to do a certain task and secondly, we may train someone and become overly reliant on them.

If you would like to grow your business, you need to take a big step back and start to look at what tasks you are finding yourself doing over and over again. Then you need to work out how you can streamline or systemise this task and then create a process on how to complete it.
